Scott Cawthon is a video game developer, animator, and writer, best known as the creator of the Five Nights at Freddy's game franchise. Cawthon used Autodesk 3ds Max to create 3D models of objects and characters for his games such as Five Nights at Freddy's , as well as Clickteam Fusion 2. Cawthon's career in game design and animation began in the s. Cawthon revealed his first game titled Doofas during a livestream;  he made the game when he was a child. This game later became a troll game as the "demo" of Ultimate Custom Night. His first official games were released in the early s, one of the earliest known being RPG Max , released in He later joined Hope Animation, where he created animations for children based on Christian values.

Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon is working with a number of amateur developers to support, and ultimately release, some of the fan community's greatest fan-made creations. In the official FNaF subreddit thanks, Xenodizzy , Cawthon dropped a message to the community, saying "there have been some great fanmade spinoff universes created in this community, and [they] want to see them keep going". Cawthon went on to explain that they were "going to stay OUT of the development side of things so that these creators can do their thing", but said the devs "are going to develop these games and interact with the fanbase just as they would have normally, and when the games are done, they'll be released on GameJolt for free, just like normal". The announcement went on to become the most upvoted post on the entire subreddit, hitting over eleven thousand upvotes.
