Once again Polish Professional Women in the Netherlands was privileged to organize the Global Mentoring Walk, an initiative launched in by Geraldine Laybourne to empower young women professionals in the United States. Last Sunday, thousands of women participated in walks in 62 countries! Only here in Amsterdam, over 40 pairs of mentors and mentees came together to participate in this special event. Mentors and mentees shared their challenges, experiences and their personal stories. Our mentors were people with extensive experience in a certain company or industry, who shared their knowledge and practice with younger colleagues. Raising awareness about mentoring is a key tool for personal, professional and business development.

I went as a mentor and came back humbled by my mentee, all of 22, on the verge of completing her Masters in Psychology, with quite a few internship experiences under her belt, including counselling for substance abuse, phobia, school kids, family and relationship therapy. She is on the verge of completing her Masters dissertation on the Impact of SMART phones on mental health, and she has taken up the membership of the Library facilities of the U. Consulate General Mumbai popularly known as DostiHouse. She rides a two wheeler here very often to type out her dissertation on the PC.
Connecting women leaders around the world through mentorship. Across cultures and generations, we have seen that women leaders have a natural inclination to share talent, experience and power. Every year, we work with our Global Leadership Network to organize Global Mentoring Walks in their communities, convening women leaders to walk together. Through the Vital Voices Global Mentoring Walk, mentors and mentees come together to walk in their communities, sharing challenges and solutions and forming supportive bonds that foster growth, confidence and leadership. Geraldine Laybourne, Founder and former CEO of Oxygen Media, responded to requests for advice from young women by inviting them to meet her for a morning walk. It became a routine for Laybourne, and an invaluable opportunity for women who wanted to learn from her experience and perspective.
